From Eastern Europe to Western Pacific, from Taiwan to Ukraine, democracies in the world are facing multiple challenges. Foreign influence and domestic polarization, difficulties in our information environment have negatively impacted public discourse. We citizens often find ourselves unable to engage in informative conversations based on credible information, nor to make informed decisions on important policies.
Taiwan’s civil society has mobilized itself in meeting these challenges. Many have embarked on various endeavors from collaborative fact-checking to human rights advocacy to restore the information environment as an asset to democracy, not an obstacle. The 2022 Forum for Democratic Resilience organized by IORG will host four discussions on international cooperation, Taiwan’s elections, scientific research, and information literacy education, present the latest research finding and advocacy outcome, as well as explore solutions for the continued strengthening of Taiwan’s democratic resilience.
